You might change the pressure or force the cap open a little but I feel it’s a stretch to say it actually helps.

This, and why tapping the sides of it with a knife help lol…I never really understood it!

The lid gets stuck because it creates a strong seal between the jar and the lid. Sapping the bottom of it causes a pressure wave to travel from the bottom to the top at the speed of sound which could help dislodge the the lid ever so sightly breaking the seal.

Slapping the bottom of the jar is just warm-up for the finger and wrist muscles it takes to actually open the jar.

Pressure wave sorta thing. It moves the stuff, which compresses the air above, which pushes on the lid, and loosens it as it can only give in one direction. It also heats it up.

The answer is in vacuum. There is a vacuum between the product and the lid. When you slap the bottom it moves some of the product up into that space relieving some of that vacuum.

You can also squeeze the opposing “sides” of the jar lid which will let in a little air and make opening the lid easier.

If you grew up in the 90s everyone knew that if you slap the top of a Snapple bottle the bottom will drop off.
