Many of the companies you listed are not working on classic infrastructure anymore but use massively cloud services = other peoples computers. When this infrastructure gets shaky somewhere it rips others with them in the process. The trend to use Software as a Service adds to this problem because a single failure can cascade into seemingly irrelevant services that way.
Three of those companies you listed are one company. facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are all Meta and share a lot of infrastructure.
Meta haven’t said what caused that yet. Just “technical issue”. There has been lots of speculation that it is linked to other outgages but the informed opinions seem to favour the obvious answer of “someone at meta fucked up” which would make it unrelated to any broader issues
Many of these companies depends on a single host provider, AWS.
If AWS have trouble, so does these companies. If all those companies had their own 100% datacenter for themselves without relying on 3rd party, that wouldn’t be much of a problem.
This is kinda a problem as more and more companies relies on AWS due fact that is cheaper than having their own datacenters and if a Big outage happens, it could create a global issue.
