Why sound can be muffled, like through a wall, instead of just stop at the wall? Why does it keep going?

When you hear muffled sound what you’re actually hearing is the wall vibrating. The sound waves from the source will hit the wall, vibrate it and on your side that causes distorted sound waves in the air which reach your ear.

It’s not a perfect conversion so that’s why it sounds muffled.
