I’m not sure what you mean. You can see the depth, or the “sphereness,” of the moon at any point during its cycle other than perhaps full or new moon. If you can see part of it in sunlight and part of it in shadow, then you can make out shadows in its craters which very much show it is a sphere.

The moon looks like a circle if the side youre looking at it from is covered completely by sun. The moon often is partially dark in pictures giving the perspective that its a sphere.

When pictures are taken of earth where its partially dark and partially light, you can see that it is a sphere the same as the moon or any other planet/moon. Most pictures are not taken like that of earth because its difficult to get far enough from earth to take the picture.

Any sphere looks like a circle from a distance. Just look at, say, a basketball or something from fat away.

If you look at a sphere from very far away, you only see the cross section, i.e., a circle, and have no way to discern the fine details that usually allow you to perceive it’s depth.
