The moon looks like a circle if the side youre looking at it from is covered completely by sun. The moon often is partially dark in pictures giving the perspective that its a sphere.

When pictures are taken of earth where its partially dark and partially light, you can see that it is a sphere the same as the moon or any other planet/moon. Most pictures are not taken like that of earth because its difficult to get far enough from earth to take the picture.
