The Titanic notoriously crashed into an iceberg in freezing cold water as it was navigating the North Atlantic. The Marianas trench is located in the tropics fairly close to the equator. I guess my question to you is why would you expect the Marianas trench to be the colder of the two?

As others have pointed out, the location of the trench is sort of irrelevant because the depth creates a stable environment of about 4 degrees C, but I still am curious about the premise of the question.
