Why was milk delivered to your house in the 90s/early 2000s?

I never understood why milk was delivered to my house as a kid. This was so random

I was born in upstate NY in 1979 and I have never known anyone who had milk delivered. In my mind that died out in the 50’s or 60’s. Must have been a regional thing.
