Why we are so sluggish and tired in the morning despite having just rested our bodies?

Even with the full 8 waking up and moving around at the start of the day is fatiguing. Even when we are young.

A lot of internal processes either slow down or shut down during sleep. Your brain effective paralyses you to keep you from sleepwalking (or at least it should). Heart rate slows. Breathing slows. Bunch of other things as well. Those things need a little time to start up again.

There’s also the matter of waking from deep sleep Vs light sleep. Alarms waking you when you’re in a deep sleep can be upsetting to the processes that do specifically take place when sleeping.

It’s not actually like this for every single person in existence. I have narcolepsy with cataplexy & it’s normal for me. Have you considered that you might be experiencing a sleep disorder?

The annoying part of waking up isn’t waking up itself, it’s facing one’s daily responsibilities once again. It gets tiring.

Not sure that’s true for everyone? I stopped drinking alcohol and now when my alarm goes off I’m ready to go every morning.

Because you didn’t actually get a full night of restful deep sleep. You may have a sleep disorder or need to adjust your habits. Your body wakes itself up when it’s finished resting, if you interrupt before it’s ready you will feel sluggish.

Also, the vast majority of the developed world don’t wake naturally, at least during the working week. Having an alarm clock scream at you at 6 in the morning is not pleasant.

If you slept till you naturally woke up, you’d find yourself much less fatigued (provided you don’t have a sleep disorder).
