As a lot of comments have pointed out, people don’t sleep very well. We don’t wake up naturally a lot of the time because of work or schools, alarm clocks, etc.

But when I was in boot camp we got woken up by company commanders yelling through a megaphone. I was awake and alert as can be in .5 seconds every time.

Wake up at 4:30 every morning and it’s miserable but after about the first 20 minutes of being up I’m full of piss and vinegar so I don’t know what you mean about all of us being fatigued even when we are young.
