Simply because it is an involuntary action caused by your motor cortex to raise oxygen levels in your blood. All mammals and almost every vertebrate (even some fish) yawn, so it’s an evolutionary advantage pretty much as old as the spine. The first organisms that yawned probably had the advantage by yawning when they became relaxed so they could more effectively react to danger.
