Why would rumors about Haitian immigrants promote bomb threats in Springfield, OH?

74 viewsOther

So, I know about the rumors (cats, dogs, &c.) and I’ve heard about several bomb threats to schools, purportedly from non-US sources.

I don’t understand the connection. Last I checked, no-one was rushing to defend Haiti/Hatians. Who’s behind these threats and why?

Honestly asking: not trying to encourage political mud-slinging.

I don’t think it’s entirely understandable for people that think logically, because it doesn’t make any sense.

But the city (and state) are denying it. Some people obviously take that personally and call in bomb threats to punish the community… because somehow Springfield not going along with the lie means they are against Trump and for the democrats so they deserve it…

What do you mean nobody is rushing to defend Haitians? That is absolutely inaccurate. Many, many people have spoken up in defense of the Haitian community there, including the Republican governor who is still going to vote for Donald Trump anyway.

And the reason it leads to bomb threats is because it dehumanizes and villainizes a population, therefore justifying their mass murder.

Because the goal of these accusations/rumors about Haitians are intended to rile up tensions and turn people against each other. Once notable political figures start doing that sort of thing, they’re basically inviting the worst elements of our society to indulge in their racists fantasies.

There are people out there who honestly believe that large scale civil unrest based upon racial tensions is not only inevitable, but actually desirable. They want it to happen, and are willing to try to accelerate it.

And then there’s foreign actors of various stripes who overall feel that they’ll benefit from the US having more domestic/internal strife because they believe it will weaken the US’ ability to act on the international stage. So we’ve got some foreign governments/groups doing what they can to further stoke these tensions.

A lot of people who originally came from Haiti and are legally in America were encouraged to come to Springfield Ohio to work in the factories which were on the verge of shutting down due to the lack of workers. The people came with their families and their children were enrolled in the local schools etc. The false comments about people eating cats and dogs stirred up the deep seated racism in America and tensions over mixed race schooling, funding and other issues have emerged and in an attempt to shut down the schools some people have been threatening to blow the schools up.

For whatever reason, neo-nazis have been upset about the legal immigrants in Springfield for a few years now, and they’ve been making threats and spreading rumors. Since DT and JV love neo-nazis, they believed these rumors and chose to amplify them on TV, also to draw attention away from major endorsements going to Harris. That’s given the neo-nazis cover to escalate their threats. On top of which, Russia has been helping make it worse by international phone calls to Springfield non-emergency numbers.

Political mud-slinging *is* what’s going on here.

It’s a made up, racist story with zero facts invented by right wing groups and repeated by media and presidential candidates in order to generate sentiments on racism and xenophobia.

This is a tried and true strategy for stoking racial violence in order to sway public perception. On the most direct level, point was to smear the Haitian immigrants, then blame the left for allowing them into the country in the first place.

One step removed, if you can get your in-group to start committing acts of violence against your target group, then you can push them into leaving (or dying. Either way you’re rid of them). It’s a roundabout attempt at racial cleansing.

This playbook isn’t new. Look up “Blood Libel”

“Last I checked” yeah? When was that?

Some kooks always just want to be part of the zeitgeist, but I think I’ve seen or heard in at least 2 places that most of the calls are not coming from “inside the house” but are being placed by foreign actors.

I took that to mean that all the people who text you things like “Hello Sheila? This is Mia. Oh no I am so sorry I just realize now that my assistant must have given me wrong number I am embarrassed but hope I have not ruined your beautiful day Here is my pic” will also have no problem calling in bomb threats to local schools etc. just for the usual chaos.

There was a gas explosion local to me many years ago and everyone online was talking about it being a military storming of an underground sex trafficking bunker. Someone on a weird online channel cottoned onto the term “feeder school” for some local prep school chat and swore that teenagers at these schools were being trafficked into local tunnels.

What was it really? A self-important Ivy League dude who forgot to call dig safe or do a survey before renting his own backhoe because he was too cheap to pay a landscaper who would have known better. Blew up like half the block.

There are local voices attempting to dismiss these rumors. Attempts to intimidate and retaliate against these local voices would naturally be part of the playbook of those invested in that disinformation.
