The servers which host the websites and Internet places are basically like fancy home computers, and they can keep having more and more hard drives / storage space added to them, and when they cannot fit any more hard drives then more computers / servers can be linked in together so that more hard drives can be added.

Well basically we keep adding more of it 😀

If more people use the internet that’s more people paying for stuff which is more money to add more servers and network bandwidth. What you pay for service also pays for continual upgrades.

So as your personal computer gets more advanced and needs more bandwidth to download higher quality pictures and video, so does server hardware.

It really only goes slightly out of whack if some new market suddenly emerges. Video streaming for example had the potential to push ISPs and server use up a bit too fast, but providers coped. The market didn’t just pop out of nowhere it grew over several years. Even with large surges from increases streaming over COVID, ISPs and content hosts implement expansion a few years ahead. The increase just cut into the overhead a bit, but nothing really got overloaded.
