Yawning when tired

I know that when you yawn it’s because your brain isn’t getting enough oxygen and forces you to take a deep breath, or “yawn” (or at least that’s what I’ve been told my whole life), it’s not because you’re tired. But if that’s the case, why do people only yawn when tired?? Half-baked thought and would love some input

People don’t only yawn when tired.

Sit all day in the office and then go straight to a heavy workout. You will yawn quite a bit. It’s a common choir/band warm up to do a few deep breathing exercises to force a yawn if one is needed.
