Yawning when tired

I know that when you yawn it’s because your brain isn’t getting enough oxygen and forces you to take a deep breath, or “yawn” (or at least that’s what I’ve been told my whole life), it’s not because you’re tired. But if that’s the case, why do people only yawn when tired?? Half-baked thought and would love some input

Smoked the whole joint, didn’t ya?
I’ve read that yawning is a mechanism which the body uses to ‘reset’, or refresh the brain. Not sure that it’s anything oxygen related; wouldn’t that be the body’s cue to breathe?
