I got confused when it stated that coffee fruit is called a cherry.

The coffee bean is actually the seed inside the coffee berry. Cocoa is a completely different plant where the seeds are clustered inside the cocoa pod. Cherries are a species unto themselves as well.

A coffee bean is the pit of a coffee fruit, often called a “cherry” as it is similar to that of a cherry which are both “stone fruit”. A normal cherry is the fruit of a cherry plant. Cocoa beans are the seeds of the cacao plant, an entirely different plant than that of coffee or cherries.
