The only way to contract an STI is from someone who already has it. Aside from sexual contact, the only other way is for a mother to pass it to a child during birth or through things like sharing needles or tainted medical eqipment and blood transfusions. Assuming that doesn’t happen, it’s 100% impossible for someone without an STI to give something they don’t even have to someone else, regardless of whether or not one or both (or more) partners are virgins. If you’re sexually active, use protection and get tested every once in a while. You’ll be fine.

Being an STD only requires that the disease can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. Most diseases have several infection vectors. You may get it through contact with blood for example. Some can even be transmitted through spit and coughs. So it is possible to contract an STD without having sex but it depends on the disease.
