How does grass spread? I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen grass seeds being produced by the grass you buy/plant

The other day I was watering my parents garden, when I suddenly realized how much of grass was in the world.. even though it doesn’t seem to produce seeds.. Where does the grass seed comes from? How come the grass we buy/plant doesn’t produce seeds?

People seed their lawns. Grass that is allowed to mature enough does produce seeds, but it is rarely allowed to do so

It does produce seeds but we usually cut it before it gets to that point.

Ever seen tall, yellowish grass? Or grass with sticky bits on the end or ‘wheat-like’ tips? That’s the stage where it begins producing seeds and sometimes even flowers.
