I believe mucus keeps the mucus membranes (nose, mouth, etc.) free of contaminate build-up. A toxin removal, so to speak, as well as keeping membranes lubricated. Downside — I’m allergic to dust mites, grasses and several tree pollen. A thing that should help, hurts. Swollen, stuffy yet still runny nose, sneezing.

Snot is a mix of filtered from inhale parts and body defense system.
First problem is immunity decrease. Second dryness of places that should not be so.
There is also a medicaments that block snot producing.

Nasal mucous carries dust and germs out of your nose and body. It flushes dust so you can breathe clearly and it flushes germs so you stay healthy.

Typically when you’re congested and you cant push any snot out, it’s not directly because of a buildup of mucous but rather your nasal walls are swollen due to a mild or severe infection. The mucous trapped up there is excreted by the walls and holding onto the germs but can’t escape. Once the swelling lets up, the mucous can wash out the nasal cavity.
