What did people do about wisdom teeth before dental surgery?

In: Biology

Well they would pull them if they could and if not you lived with the pain or died of infection.

Most dental issues like teeth not fitting, growing awkwardly, are actually a consequence of “softer” modern food. There are actually not a lot of cases of bad teeth back in the day, so probably that wasn’t even an issue to most people.

Why would they need to be pulled out?

Don’t they come out later, in part, to fill in gaps from lost teeth? Forcing the molars forward and rearranging the bite to accomodate them? So keeping a full set of teeth into adulthood contributes to the issue?
