What does photosynthesis do to the carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight to make food?

In: Chemistry

All organisms (and thus, all our food) are mostly made of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. These are most common as Water/Oxygen/Carbon Dioxide because these are the most stable states. In order for them to assume the Form of complex carbohydrates, you need an external source of energy. This energy comes from sunlight through the process we call photosynthesis.

Btw: The energy that went into this process is stored within the carbohydrates in the plant matter. Digesting these breaks them down to shorter molecules again and releases the surplus energy in your body.
