What happens when we automatically wake up in the morning? What changes? Why do we sleep almost instantly if we wake up in the night? What changes in patients waking up from coma or coming out from a surgery that we wake up?

I think you are making a lot of assumptions that people sleep the same as you.

I personally experience a lot of sleep inertia. If I wake up in the middle of the night, or in the morning, it is the same. I can go back to bed any time for the next few hours with no problem at all. I would have to sleep closer to 12 hours to avoid this effect. But then I would never get anything done.

My wife on the other hand, if she wakes up at any time, even in the middle of the night, there is a 50% chance that she is now up for the rest of the night. And if she does get back to sleep, its after several hours of trying to get back to sleep.
