When standing up after sitting down for a while, why does your eyesight get blurry and your head gets dizzy?

Answer: when you stand up your head moves from low to high, but it takes your blood circulation a couple more seconds after that to adjust and sort of recover from the sudden movement.

This basically pulls your blood out of your head and lower down into your body, leaving your head with lower than normal amounts of blood for a bit, which can cause the dizzy head and the blurry eyesight.

I sometimes get this when I do leg press. The machine is designed to have you lay in the shape of an obtuse V. How could this effect still happen if my head is above my torso?

If this happens frequently, and you are otherwise healthy, mention this to your doctor. It could be a sign of low blood pressure. An occasional dizzy spell when standing is no big deal, but if it happens frequently, you need to get it checked out.
