You don’t need to be rich to be clean. I can understand infrastructure issues and other government things but when you look at the rivers and streets there should be no reason they are that polluted with blatant trash like bottles wrappers plastic clothes etc.

Surely they can see what there doing? Indian people are some of the smartest people around. So why is it?

Its also poorer communities in the US, if you get around much. Its like that everywhere is seems.

Infrastructure takes time and money thats dependent to per capita GDP. Often, “green” initiatives and hygiene cost an exorbitant amount to start even if they save in the long term. Theres also cultural differences that needs to be taken into consideration. Some places are uneducated and don’t know the consequences of pollution and poor hygene

You know the entire country isn’t a large pile of trash, right?

Those poor communities are where the rich communities dump everything

Also, keep in mind that India’s population density is 12-13x higher than the United States, and is 30th in the world for that metric. It is easily the most densely populated “large” country in the world.

With all of those people packed into tight quarters, generating trash daily, having infrastructure problems and economic issues, it’s no wonder the trash has started to pile up.

I live in an incredibly beautiful part of Guatemala. Tourism is a major source of revenue. However, people here just drop their garbage where they stand once they’re done with it. A trash can could be two feet away. No amount of education changes the mindset. As far as I can tell, the mindset is they live in shit and the only solution is for a family member to get into the USA so that money can be sent back.
