Why do the add acetaminophen to opioid painkillers?

In: Biology

Your body has different pathways to convey pain, opioids work on one of those, acetaminophen on another.

It also helps prevent people from taking too high of doses of the opioid. The acetaminophen is toxic if you take too much, so people are less likely to abuse it than if it were just the opioid.

My only guess it’s because of the anti-inflammatory…but then I don’t see the reason why it should be mixed with other meds when it’s already available over the counter by itself. And many people are not aware of the risk of acetaminophen overdose and permanent Liver damage it could cause.
