Why do the seeds of spicy peppers contain so much heat?

It’s actually the oil from the peppers that contain the heat. There may be oil on the seeds, but the seeds are just the pods that allow the pepper to reproduce.

I had always interpreted this as being similar to the cyanide in apple pips, so that you are discouraged from destroying the seeds and swallow them whole.

This allows them to be pooped out in our natural, fertilising manure.

Looking at the other comments I may be mistaken though….
