Why does a person’s throat hurt when they swallow after they quit smoking?

In: Biology

from burns due to the smoke, but when you smoke, it numbs the pain so it isn’t noticeable until you quit, I think

I would have thought it’s due to the fact that smoking kills the little hairs that line the throat.

When a person stops smoking the little hairs grow back and causes irritations.

It also causes a massive amount of coughing.

I used to be an ex smoker and I remember my throat feeling awful for a week after smoking and then it was much better.
