Why does it take up to 3 months before the effects of some supplements can be felt?

For example, if I start taking ashwangada, or some other anti-anxiety supplement, some sites state that the effects can be felt after a few weeks or even months. Why aren’t the effects felt immediately, since I’ve already taken the supplement?

In theory it’s because the active ingredient “builds up” in your system. This applies to various medications as well. However in the case of ashwangada, and many other “alternative medicines”, it’s because it doesn’t work, and the manufacturer is trying to make you take it for three months.
