Why does ripping off a bandage quickly hurt less than slowly peeling it off?

One theory is that it overwhelms the pain receptors, so you can only feel so much at any one time.

I mean, the slower you do it the longer the pain lasts. Either way it’s gonna suck coming off if it’s fused with the skin so it’s better to concentrate the action in a single swift motion. The overall experience should be minimized that way.
