Why is it that when our sinus’ are congested we can’t taste food properly?

In: Biology

Your tongue only knows how sweet, salty, bitter or sour things are. Your nose does the rest. If your nose isn’t working right it can’t help you taste things.

The sense of smell makes up a large proportion of our sense of taste, because the fumes / particles that are emitted from food while it’s in our mouths do make their way into our noses. If your sinuses are congested, your sense of smell will be seriously compromised, and that will directly affect your sense of taste.
