After sweating out in the heat for a while, why when we come indoors do we continue to feel hot and sweat for some time?

Is our skin or body temp still elevated? Or do we just have some “inertia” in our body cooling systems?

We can only lose heat through the skin, but have heat ‘stored’ throughout the body. This means that all the excess heat needs to make its way to the skin before it is lost to the environment. As you can imagine, this will take some time, which is why you will feel hot and sweaty for some time after exercise.
