Bubbling Salsa Cool to Touch? (Thru plastic container.)

Left a little plastic togo container of salsa out for a couple days. It started to bubble, also making a gas that poofed out the plastic lid. When I held it to throw it, it wasn’t hot, tho it was bubbling away. Why didn’t it feel hot?

Your salsa started to ferment. Bacteria grew in it and then started producing gases that were causing the bubbles. It’s like sauerkraut and lacto fermeneted pickles. They both bubbles.
