Can someone explain multiple regression?

Out of all the statistical things, I don’t know why but I’m very confused by this one.

Linear regression is used to plot and measure the correlation between the independent variable (x-axis) and the dependent/explanatory variable (y-axis). Multiple regression just plots more than one explanatory variable.
