I am watching Helix and have heard this term a few times. I have tried googling it only to end up confused as to what it means.

First time hearing it…. but it basically says if you find plants in more places, absent something obviously restricting their spread, that means they’ve been there longer.
More area occupied by the plants = longer time the plants have been present
