Can someone please explain bullet spread in video games and why it matters?

In counter-strike there’s recoil (spread) with weapons. Remove the “spread” and you have bullets going in a linear trajectory. That’s not very skillful and not very realistic. Enable the spread and you have realism and a probability zone for the bullets.

The difference is night and day when people have recoil hacks in games. Without spread, they get headshots more frequently, and often winning on that fact alone.
