Bullet spread is the randomness of where your bullets will land compared to where you are pointing.
In something like a shotgun, which uses shells containing multiple “shots” 9that’s the name of the pellets in the shell), it refers to where the individual “shots” will land in an area around where you are aiming. It’s dependent on the gun muzzle choke and shells used in real life, but is simulated in video games. Say, for instance, you have a shotgun where the choke and shells give you a 1 inch spread every yard. At 25 yards away, the pellets will have spread out 25 inches.
For other weapons, bullet spread is a way to simulate inaccuracy in weapons. For instance, it’s very hard in real life to hit a far away target with a pistol or other short barrel weapon. With a mouse and keyboard, you can be extremely precise, so the bullet spread on these weapons adds a random variable to make the bullet possibly be off target from where your reticle is aiming.
