Can two people with different illnesses experience wildly different symptoms? Or are symptoms generally universal when it comes to types of illnesses?

If an illness is kinda similar to one that the immune system has already experienced, the effect on the body will be mild compared to a person who has zero experience with that pathogen. Even with the recent coronavirus, the usually respiratory distress sometimes presents as abdominal issues, at least initially.
