eli5: Can horsepower be added to each other or is there overlap? Example: If Ferrari says that an electric motor on each front wheel can produce 100hp each, and the combustion engine produces 750hp. Is it actually 950hp exactly? Or is there overlap or less hp etc?

Horsepower is additive.

Traction is not.

And more horsepower will not produce linearly better results. For every additional horsepower, you get relatively smaller returns. Not to mention, those additional horsepower tend to cost more, too. Going from 800 to 900 hp isa lot more expensive than going from 100 to 200.
