With some poisons you can build up resistance. How much resistance you can build up depends on the chemical composition of the poison and its method of action.
For instance, if a poison is a larger chemical like a protein, your body can make antibodies to bind with it, improving your ability to resist that protein. And if the way the protein hurts you is to bind up with a bunch of other proteins in your blood to create clots, you might respond to repeated exposure by increasing your number of anti-clotting factors and white blood cells like macrophages that clean up the blockages.
