Eli5 Does your body absorb all blood clots? How does it do it? Does location affect it?

There’s an enzyme called plasmin in the body which degrades the fibrin that makes up a clot. After plasmin does its job the fibrin in the clot becomes fragments of d-dimer protein which is eventually excreted from the body by the kidneys.
