eli5: How come come animals can regenerate their limbs but humans can’t?

Most animals can’t. I can’t think of any mammals that can. Salamanders and starfish and all the other regenerating animals invested their evolution points in simple designs and really good stem cells. Humans invested our points in the brain so we could have language and tools.
