my terrarium died completely due to heat and excessive sunlight a couple weeks ago, where all the snails and plants died and withered, and there was even hints of white mold. I forgot to throw it away but today to my surprise the terrarium was thriving with little springtails(?) crawling around. How did it revive itself? Was it not completely dead?

It wasn’t completely dead. It is possible that there were eggs under the soil, laid there by a few now-dead springtails you didn’t notice, protected from the environment. Terrariums are also generally not closed ecosystems, there is air exchange, and humidity exchange, so even if it was killed, things can still get in, like spores, seeds, floating eggs, etc.
