How does glass on glass make a seal won’t air be able to travel back and forth I get how decantors that have rubber a rubber gasket work but do decantors without it work the same way?

Good decanters will have ground glass portions that are held to tight tolerances. Those sections will meet together almost exactly. There will be gaps due to inherent manufacturing imperfections, but they will be small. Small enough that you’ll only notice evaporation or a lack of seal over months or years.
