The boundary of the pixel is a tiny thin film transistor. The part is so thin you can see through it. The process is a lot like making integrated circuits, but on a glass substrate.

They aren’t attached.

More accurately the ‘screen’ is a series of layers. Generally you will have the backlight, the diffuser, the pixels(liquid Crystal based), and then the front glass/cover and some other layers as needed.

These layers could just be placed next to each other and work but for durability/reliability they are often glued together in some way.
