A sandstorm is caused by wind blowing in a sandy environment, picking up and moving sandparticles.

Wind is caused by a pressure differential between 2 geographic areas, causing air to move from the high pressure area to the low pressure area.

The airpressure changes when the airtemperature changes due to convection. The temperature changes are mainly caused by solar irradiation (warming) or to rainfall (cooling).
