eli5 How do they keep cruise ships from tipping over in really bad weather?

1. They either try to move out of the way (avoid) of bad weather.
2. Use stablizing tech like ballast.
3. Turn the ship to handle the waves.

I’m a cruiser with a science undergrad degree, and it still blows my mind that they float at all.
