Eli5: How do you “shift” the equilibrium?

We’re learning Le Chatelier’s Principle in our chem class and I just don’t get how can you “shift” the equilibrium around. What does “shifting” mean? If the eq is “shifted” to the reactant side, does that mean more reactants are formed?
