In pharmacology, domperidone is an antagonist of dopamine receptors type 2 and 3. This means that it stops dopamine from binding to these receptors.
In your gut, dopamine binds to dopamine 2 receptors (D2) inhibiting your intestinal motility. This causes food to spend more time in your gut, making you bloated. By blocking those D2 receptors, domperidone stops dopamine from binding to them and slowing your intestines. By stopping the inhibitory effect of dopamine, we actually speed up intestinal motility, making you feel the need to poo quicker. This also solves your bloating problem.
Take it as prescribed and you’ll have the optimal result.
