Eli5: How does dust form inside of houses?

A significant amount of the dust in your house is dead skin cells. It also consists of fibers from your clothes and carpets, pollen, dirt tracked in from outside, paper and cardboard dust, and even traces of micrometeorites.
A variety of sources, including but not limited to shed skin cells from the occupant. Some of this may be in the air for a while before settling. In addition you have similar detritus from pets, visitors, etc.
