Starlink is a cluster of small satellites (Satellite Constellation) that fully loop around the earth. They use lasers to communicate with each other, and use radio waves to communicate with devices on earth. So if you were connected to one, your internet traffic would go from your phone to a Starlink satellite, and that satellite will relay the traffic to several other Starlink satellites until it’s close enough to the destination and then send it back to earth.

The big advantage to Starlink is that the satellites are not in geosynchronous orbit, so they can be much closer to earth. This reduction in distance means that devices that use the satellites will not need bulky antennas or big batteries. This also improves performance.
