Stress is super broad as a term, but when stressed your body normally releases a hormone called “cortisol”. Cortisol does a lot to your body in the short term and long term.

In the long term, cortisol can cause sebaceous glands (the glands in your skin that make oil) to act up and produce more. This is what causes the pimples to pop up more.

When I’m stressed, my skin gets oilier because of the hormone cortisol. More oil means more clogged pores and pimples. It’s frustrating but managing stress helps reduce breakouts for me 🙂

If your stressed it’s because your body thinks there is something to be stressed about or a “danger”. So there are lots of processes in your body that your brain prioritises to try and keep you safe, and unfortunately having clear skin is bottom of the list. Plus if your stressed peoples diet, digestion and lifestyle often don’t help.
